Step 1: Prep the Oven

Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Pour the melted butter into a 9×13-inch baking dish, ensuring the bottom is fully coated.

Step 2: Mix the Biscuit Dough

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and garlic powder (if using).
Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and diced ham until evenly distributed.
Pour in the buttermilk and gently mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; the dough should be thick and sticky.

Step 3: Spread the Dough

Carefully pour the biscuit dough into the prepared baking dish on top of the melted butter. Use a spatula to spread it evenly across the dish.
The dough will “swim” in the butter, which helps create the crispy edges and soft interior.

Step 4: Bake

Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown on top and set in the center.
